Usps Lost My Package? Or Has It Just Not Arrived Yet?

I entrusted my mother ship my sister’s Christmas gift to her (Gulf Coast to South Florida). It shipped January 11th, and my sister has still not received it. It was put in a large yellow envelope and just mailed with a lot of stamps (no tracking number, no delivery confirmation, nada!).
I normally ship priority which (especially when shipping pricey gifts) has never failed me; so I am unfamiliar with just throwing several stamps on it method.
To top it off I asked her if she was positive that she shipped it to my sister’s house and her response was “…….I think so……………………..”. It’s so frustrating!
How long does it normally take for packages to arrive when shipped like this? I feel like it shouldn’t take long since it’s only a 4 hour flight. If it’s lost am I able to file any kind of claim? Ahh I have no idea about this, except for the fact I’m never having my mother ship presents again!

Depending on the weight in relation to the postage, it might have gone parcel post. If so, it can easily take a couple of weeks since that’s the slowest class of service. There’s no way of knowing how it was sent. Also, it might not have been shipped on January 11. Your mother might have brought it to the post office or put it in a mail box then, but that doesn’t mean it shipped then. If it didn’t have enough postage, the post office will return it to her. And they’ll do that when they get around to it. As I said — there’s no way of knowing.
