My daughters are 2 & 4 years old.
They have only met my boyfriend once and I introduced him as a friend. We’ve been dating 7 months but I didn’t want them to meet him until I was ready because I grew up meeting so many of my mum’s boyfriends have would come and go. They met him on the weekend a couple weeks ago and the four of us spent the day out and they seemed fine with him.
On Monday my boyfriend and I are meant to be going away for a few days and my daughters were meant to be staying with their dad but that fell threw and he only told me yesterday. My boyfriend has suggested that we take them with us and I mentioned it to my ex because the trip is out of the country and I don’t want him to accuse me of trying to run away with them. He said he didn’t think it was a good idea because they don’t know my boyfriend and he doesn’t know my boyfriend – I don’t know his fiancee but it doesn’t stop me leaving my daughters with him for the weekend when I don’t know her. I’m not sure if it is a good idea not only because they have met him once but because I have never travelled with them for more than an hour or so by train as I don’t drive. My boyfriend is waiting for my answer and will cancel the trip if I think it is a bad idea, but I’m really not sure. My judgement is telling me that I need a break away from home but my common sense is telling me its too far to go with them and that it might be a chance for them to get to know him and I get to know how well he gets on with them.
Do you think it is a good idea to take them with us?
