its driving me mad because i know the answer is £1678 but i worked it out on a calculator and i need to know hoe i work it out without one

the correct answer is £1675 and all you do is 670 X 2.50
half of 670 is 335 so then double £2.50 so its £5 so then work out 335 X 5
670 x £2.50
can do it this way
2 x 670 = £1340
1/2 of 670 = £335…………..because there are 2 x 50p in £1
Add together
= £1675
670×2.5 is 1675…are you sure the source you got the answer from is completely
correct
Especially as 1678 / 2.5 = 671.2 and you can’t have 0.2 of a child
But to work it put without a calculator simply I’d do 670×5 which is a simple short multiplication
670

3350
Then divide 3350 by 2=£1675
670 times £2.50
